In-Store Food and Beverage Demonstrator
Love food and chatting with people? Orbit Marketing is hiring In-Store Food and Beverage Demonstrators for Wellington supermarkets. Flexible Wed–Sun shifts, paid training, fun team. Apply now!
About us:
Orbit Marketing is an established marketing agency bringing some of the world's best-loved food and beverage brands to life inside New Zealand supermarkets. We specialise in in-store product sampling and cooking demonstrations, creating genuine, tasty moments that turn a weekly shop into a discovery. Our Wellington team works across major supermarkets including Woolworths, New World, and Pak'nSave.
About the role:
We're looking for warm, food and drink-loving people to host sampling stations inside Wellington supermarkets. Roughly half our shifts are straight product sampling—pouring, plating, and offering shoppers a taste while sharing what makes the product special. The other half are live cooking demonstrations, where you'll prepare simple dishes in-store to show a product in action.
You can do both, or focus on the type that suits you best. To give you a sense of the variety: in June alone our Wellington team will be running cooking demos for the Wattie's Soup campaign and pouring samples for BOSS Coffee—two very different shifts, both equally important.
A sampling shift might involve pouring chilled drinks into tasting cups, plating bite-sized portions, and chatting with curious shoppers. A cooking shift adds a portable hotplate and a simple recipe you'll prepare live. Either way, you'll keep your station clean, inviting, and food-safe throughout the day.
Shifts
Mostly Wednesday to Sunday, with flexibility to choose your own availability. Demos typically run during peak shopping hours (late morning through early afternoon on weekends, and mid afternoon to early evenings on weekdays).
This role suits you if you:
Enjoy food and drink and love talking about it with shoppers
Have a sales-minded approach—you make every sample an opportunity to turn a shopper into a buyer, and you're motivated to hit targets
Are warm, approachable, and happy to start conversations with shoppers
Have hospitality, barista, deli, food truck, catering, retail sampling, or home-cooking experience (any of these is a great fit, and none of them are essential, we train you!)
Are comfortable preparing simple recipes in front of an audience, OR happy sticking to sampling-only shifts, OR keen to do both
Take pride in a tidy, hygienic workstation
Can stand for the length of a shift and carry sampling equipment to and from your car
Practical requirements:
Access to a vehicle and a current New Zealand Driver's licence (you'll transport demo kit between stores)
Eligible to work in New Zealand
Available weekends (Saturday and Sunday are our busiest days)
Comfortable handling food and drink safely. A current Food Safety / food handler certificate is a bonus, but we provide training if you don't have one
Well-presented and happy to wear branded uniform
What we offer:
Competitive hourly rate
Paid training across both sampling and cooking demos, including food safety and product knowledge
Real variety—one week you might be pouring iced coffee for BOSS, the next plating up Wattie's soup
A supportive team and a genuinely fun environment
Flexible shifts that work around study, family, or another job
Tell us when you apply:
Whether you're keen on sampling shifts, cooking shifts, or both, there's plenty of work in all three lanes.
If you love to share great food and drink with Wellington shoppers, we'd love to hear from you. Submit your expression of interest to our Recruitment Manager and tell us a bit about yourself! We look forward to connecting with you soon.
